Heritage Sites

There are a few sites in Parkland County dealing with the community's heritage that everyone should take some time to see.
These include the: Stony Plain Murals Spruce Grove Grain Elevator

Stony Plain has at least 27 murals painted on the sides of various buildings throughout the community.

Each mural portrays part of the town's history leading Stony Plain to proudly call itself "The Town With the Painted Past".

Guided tours of the murals are available if you contact the Multicultural Heritage Centre.

Cornelia Wood, a pioneer, who went on to serve on the school board, as mayor, and several terms as MLA	Jacob Miller, ran a general store and post office and was the town's second mayor.

The Spruce Grove grain elevator, built in 1958, is one of 30 functioning elevators in Alberta.

While many communities have either chosen, or been forced to tear down their grain elevators, Spruce Grove has turned their elevator into a museum.

The elevator has all of its original working parts, and tours, including demonstrations, are offered over the summer months.
